Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation is a stretching technique in which one engages the stretched muscle group. Essentially, you’ll gently push back towards me as you inhale while I hold you in a stretch, and release into the stretch as you exhale. This is called the contract and release method. PNF has been shown to increase Range of Motion and flexibility more effectively than static stretching does.
